Laura Nyro was an American musician who lived between 1947 and 1997. Her recordings were received with critical acclaim throughout her career and she achieved commercial success as notable artists such as Barbra Streisand and the 5th Dimension recorded her songs. Born in the Bronx, she first tasted success selling her song “And When I Die” to Peter, Paul & Mary for $5,000. Thereafter she released 10 studio albums and an album of her work was released posthumously. Nyro was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1996, and died the following year. She released a double disc retrospective of her best releases with Columbia records that was released shortly before her death.
