Linda Clifford

If you win Miss Brooklyn, the next thing you go to in Miss New York... And then it's Miss America or Miss U.S.A., whichever the pageant might be. Unfortunately, at the time I won the title, it wasn't a very good time for African-American people in this country, especially for young women to be entering beauty pageants because it was unheard of to have a black beauty contestant. So, when I won, it was a disaster

Linda Clifford (born June 14, 1949) is an R&B, Disco and House singer from New York City. A former Miss New York State, Clifford started off working as an actress, playing minor roles in several films. However, unsatisfied with her career as an actress, she decided to focus on pursuing her ambition of singing. She initially signed with Paramount records, before moving to Curtis Mayfield’s Curtom Records label in the mid 1970s. 1977 saw the release of her debut album “Linda”, and she scored several other successes on the label. Her disco version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” was especially well received. She has released a string of albums since then, and her most recent single came out in 2011.
