Nuyorican Soul

I just thought it would be great if we could get together and do something really creative and have a lot of great talents come and be a part of this project. And what's more we’re here in New York

Nuyorican Soul is a project by duo ‘Little’ Louie Vega and Kenny ‘Dope’ Gonzalez of the house-garage production and remix team, Masters at Work, which was formed in New York City, 1990. Their Nuyorican Soul project had the duo working extensively with real (as opposed to sampled or synthesized) musicians, in a variety of styles including latin, disco, jazz and more. The self-titled album released under the name Nuyorican Soul in 1996 included original tracks as well as cover versions of songs by the performers with which the duo was working, such as ‘Sweet Tears’ (Roy Ayers), and ‘Runaway,’ with the Salsoul Orchestra.
