New York City stand up
Russel Tyrone Jones, better known by his stage name Ol’ Dirty Bastard, was born in Brooklyn, New York City on the 15th November, 1968.
He was one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan, a rap group primarily from Staten Island that first rose to mainstream prominence with their 1993 debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Jones then went on to persue a successful solo career and contributed as a rapper/producer for the Fugees. However, his professional success was hampered by frequent legal troubles, and on November 13th 2004 (two days before his 36th birthday) he collapsed at RZA’s recording studio and was pronounced dead half an hour later. The official cause of death was a drug overdose; an autopsy found a lethal mixture of cocaine and the prescription drug tramadol.
